Steve Wood
Ok, so how does a guy who was born in Cleveland, roots for the Yankees, considers U2 one of his favorite bands and “The Godfather” one of his favorite movies, is younger than the worship leader, and says his favorite thing to do is attend the Feast of the Assumption in Little Italy become the head of one of the Low Country’s largest churches?
That’s a good question.
“I don’t actually consider myself the ‘head’ of St. Andrew’s. The way I see it, Jesus Christ is. By His grace, and perhaps due to God’s ironic sense of humor, I have been called to leadership . . . and I take that very seriously.”
And if anything in the above list makes you nervous, maybe it would help to know that Steve married his childhood sweetheart, Jacqui, they have four sons, right now his favorite Bible verse is Ephesians 3.20-21, and, he also owns sixteen different versions of his favorite song, “Somewhere over the Rainbow.”
John Burley
South Carolina is home for me and where now I’ve spent the majority of my life. My wife, Gayle and I both grew up in Columbia and received our degrees at USC and C of C respectively. We got married in 1976 and after graduation we decided to set out on a great northern adventure…Trinity School for Ministry outside of Pittsburgh, PA…Brrrrr! After realizing blue toes and the absence of sunlight was just not for us, we journeyed back to SC and VA where we served God and rounded out our family with 3 great kids. Finally God has brought us full circle where we are privileged to be back at St. Andrew's.
Anthony Kowbeidu
I hail from Liberia, West Africa. Yes! I am an African. My smooth accent is not southern or from the low country, but rather the Queen's language mixed with my native vernacular. My favorite bible verse is Jeremiah 20:9 - "His word burns in my heart like a fire". My favorite place besides my village is Sewanee (the Holy mountain).
God has blessed me with a wonderful family- My wife Valerie Sitton Kowbeidu and our precious jewels, Geneva Gbadee Kowbeidu and Anthony Kodjo Kowbeidu II sustain me daily. My life is complete because of my beautiful family.
I count it an honor and a privilege to serve in this church and to be a little part of what God is doing in this community.
Brian Morgan
Having grown up as the youngest of four children and having lived in six different states, God has used a wide variety of things and experiences to influence and make imprints upon Brian’s soul. Most recently, Brian, his wife Beth of fourteen years and his two children Hannah and Noah moved to St. Andrew’s ~ Mt. Pleasant from Concord, NC. As a family, they love just being at home together, taking their dog Buster for long walks, spending time at the beach and the pool.
If Brian is not out jogging or riding his bike, then he is probably at home spending time with his family or reading. With Mt. Pleasant’s great weather, Brian has a few personal goals for the next few years: he hopes to do a triathlon and learn to surf. Give him a call anytime if you are looking to join or lead a LifeGroup.
Ken Alexander
The Retired Guy
Ken is retired for the third time in his life. He does have a world of knowledge and experience and as much as we hate it, he doesn't maintain office hours at St. Andrew's any longer. He continues to help out and fill in when he's needed and we're grateful that he's only a phone call away.
Lee Chandler
Deacon
After serving in World War II, Lee Chandler attended law school. He practiced law for 60 years and wound up his career by serving for 8 years as a circuit judge and 18 years as a justice on the South Carolina Supreme Court. He lived in Darlington, South Carolina most of his life until moving to Mt. Pleasant in November 2006, when he retired from the court. A life long Anglican, Lee was ordained to the vocational diaconate in 1999. He and his wife, Martha, have one daughter and one grandson. Lee enjoys serving at the 10:45 service in the Historic Church and is happy to be here.
