Local Outreach Opportunities

There are two ways to help the following agencies: 

First, you may wish to write a check to purchase one (or more) of the items listed.  if this is your desire, make the check payable to "St. Andrew's" and on the memo line indicate the gift/agency you wish to help.

Secondly, you may wish to actually shop for the item(s).  St. Andrew's will be collecting donated items in the Main Lobby throughout the Advent season.  Please bring the gift with a note designating the agency to the Information Desk in the Ministry Center.

BACKPACK BUDDIES

Backpack Buddies is an easy way to be the hands and feet of Jesus by providing food for children on the weekend.  Many students in our public schools get free or reduced lunches during the week at school, but on the weekends go hungry. 

Suggested items:

A backpack of food for one weekend. At least 10 items are included in their weekend bag:
• 2 Breakfasts (Sat. & Sun.)
• 2 Lunches (Sat. & Sun.)
• 3 Dinners (Fri., Sat. & Sun.)

Any of these would be great!

• Easy Mac and cheese
• Nutrigrain bars
• Nature Valley Trail Mix
• Quaker Oatmeal
• Quaker Grits
• Lance's Nekots, etc.
• Del Monte fruit
• Apple Sauce
• Beannie Weannies
• Clean used book bags.

If you had rather donate funds, below are the costs to fill a backpack:

St. Andrew’s STARFISH Adoption, Orphan and Foster Care Ministry

Starfish Ministry works with Lowcountry Orphan Relief, Florence Crittenton Home and the Lowcountry Crisis Pregnancy Agency.

ST. ANDREW'S FOOD PANTRY

St. Andrew’s provides non-perishable food items for those in need in the Charleston area. We are in need of the following items (please bring no larger than 16 oz cans).

• Canned vegetables
• Canned Fruit
• Canned tuna, chicken, beef stew
• Peanut Butter
• Jelly
• Spaghetti Sauce
• Pasta
• Rice


RURAL MISSIONS

Rural Missions works to strengthen fragile Sea Island homes, one plank at a time.  Their mission is to restore the foundations of the community by repairing the homes in which folks live.

Material Needs

• Microwave oven for volunteer/guest house
• Refills of propane gas tanks for heating and cooking this winter
• Power tools, especially table and miter saws, cordless drills and sanders
• Digital camera to document home repair needs
• Large plastic storage containers
• Warm blankets and comforters.
• Warm coats, gloves and hats
• Leaf blower for Mission use
• All types of office supplies and paper products
• Gasoline gift cards for needy families
• Gift cards for materials from Lowe’s, Home Depot, True Value or Ace Hardware
• Gift cards from WalMart or any food store to hardship assistance
• Health/hygiene gift boxes/bags for migrants and elderly residents (containing items like tooth paste, socks, deodorant, combs, toothbrushes, etc.)

Volunteer Needs

  • Volunteers to build handicap ramps
  • Volunteers to cut, split and distribute firewood to elderly residents
  • Volunteers to repair and winterize homes
     

HOPE ASSEMBLY

Hope Assembly ministers to the eastside community of Charleston.  Pack a sturdy shoe box or plastic box with items for a boy or girl ages 1 to 13. Wrap the top and bottom of the box separately . Suggested items:


• Stuffed animals (ages 1-3)
• Bibles/New Testaments
• Books, crayons
• Pencils, pens, notepads
• Stickers, puzzles,
• Combs/brushes, watches/clocks
• Billfold/wallet
• Cars/trucks, dolls/accessories
• Cassettes/CDs
• Games. Candy, gum, miniature toys
• Toothpaste/toothbrushes
