Bible Study
Don't just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon:
Matthew 2.1-12
Outline
- How do you feel at the beginning of a New Year?
- Incredibly relevant and searing insight of Scripture into the human heart.
- Danger of over-familiarity with the stories of the Bible. Look again at the gospel text and we see that we are introduced to three sets of people:
Wise men (learned men who based on evidence searched after Christ that they might worship Him).
Herod's advisors (learned men, familiar with the evidence and the prophetic story and yet refuse to worship Christ).
Herod (familiar with the story, counseled by his advisors, pretends to want to worship - but his words and outward actions do not reflect the reality of his heart).
Application
- God speaks. In Matthew 2, He speaks repeatedly through dreams. God speaks in detailed and accurate ways. He speaks in the difficult and dangerous times of our lives. His words are to those who are involved in His kingdom (Psalm 37.23).
- God's work and God's ways are contested - even to death.
