Worship Arts

There has been a growing trend in churches in the West to bring the arts and worship together. More and more, churches are engaging people in more creative or alternative worship experiences. But to say that what we call ‘worship arts’ nowadays is a new trend would be significantly misleading. The arts had always been an integral part of worship as the church grew through the ages. But with the Enlightenment and the rise of evangelicalism, a great divide was created between the church and the arts. We believe, however, that creativity should be overflowing in our worship of the Creator, and worship that honors and glorifies Him should be at the heart of the arts.

At St. Andrew’s, Christ centered worship, rooted in orthodox biblically based theology, is at the heart of our mission and community. We aim to be those worshipers who worship the Father in spirit and truth (John 4.23), and as such we are always exploring dynamic ways to worship Him with creativity and excellence without sacrificing corporate participation and authenticity. This can be challenging, so we have a range of events and experiences from rich and vibrant times of corporate praise and worship at our weekend Celebrations to our progressive Wednesday! gathering, conferences on the arts, concerts, Worship Arts Movie Nites, our Kairos Gallery collections, and more.

Basically, we want to use everything in our means to love, enjoy, worship and glorify our amazing God who has blessed us to “show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2.7). We further believe that by incorporating the arts more fully into the life and worship of our community,

  • we bless the Father,
  • we impart the truth, goodness and beauty of Christ in unique and significant ways,
  • we build bridges with and help shape a culture that is lost and broken and longing for something real and beautiful, and
  • we add a valuable aesthetic and incarnational reality to the life of our community
  • we bless and encourage artists following Christ who have felt abandoned by the church so they can pursue their God given calling.
